There has been a LOT of misconception about who is able to have a service animal. It appears that some people are giving out information when they do NOT know what the ADA law states.
The following text comes right out of the ADA manual. Read it and become informed. If you are disabled with a life-limiting disability, you have the right to have a service animal.

ADA Manual Pp. 9-10
Physical or Mental Impairment
Specific examples of Physical Impairments include orthopedic, visual, speech and hearing, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, cancer, heart disease, tuberculosis, drug addiction and alcoholism.
Mental Impairments include mental or psychological disorders such as mental retardation, organic brain syndrome, emotional and mental illness, and specific learning disabilities.
DOES NOT INCLUDE
Color of eyes, hair, or skin, baldness, left-handedness, age, environmental, cultural, economic factors, common personality traits such as quick temper, where these are not symptoms of a mental, psychological, or physical disability.
