The AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program began in 1989. Now all CGC evaluators must be approved through the AKC. This is acomplished by taking the CGC exam. The Canine Good Citizen Progam consists of two parts--both essential to the program, owners, dogs and the general public. The first part of the program stresses responsible pet ownership while the second part stresses basic manners for dogs.
Dogs, who pass the 10-step Canine Good Citizen test, whether a mixed breed or purebred, will receive a certificate from the AKC. The CGC is a good first step in a dog's training and lays the foundation for other AKC activities such as obedience, agility, tracking, and performance events.
We are in the process of developing a similar testing program for our cats & miniature equine to pass before going on into advanced training. These tests will be a part of our school's public certification testing program.
Cynthia is an evaluator and if you would like more information on her testing dates, contact her by phone 318-649-7880, email: starlightanimals@bellsouth.net.
